Violet Lorraine Shope

Violet Lorraine Shope, 91, of McDermott, passed away Friday, December 19, 2025 at Resthaven Skilled Care.

She was born October 4, 1934 on Duck Run, a daughter of the late Roy and Millie Ethel Hilt Strickland. Violet was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Shope, on June 14, 2004; three brothers, Bill Strickland, Ross Strickland, and James Strickland; and two sisters, Sarah Colley and Edna Leona Brannon.

Violet is survived by her daughter, Wanda Maynard of McDermott; her son, David Shope of Carbondale, Illinois; her brother, Tom Strickland of McDermott; her sisters, Virginia Crabtree of McDermott, Dolores Clifford of Sabina, and Millie Walker of Lucasville; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, December 22, 2025 at Rushtown Cemetery, with George Vastine officiating. Procession will assemble at 9:30 am at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville.
