Gary Lee Cook

Gary Lee Cook, 87, of Lucasville, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025 at SOMC Hospice.

He was born October 24, 1938 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Russell and Helen Louise Hammonds Cook. Gary was a 1956 Portsmouth West High School graduate and a US Army Veteran. He retired as a telephone lineman-technician from ATT.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a daughter, Mistie Spicer; a son, Terry Sargent; and a sister, Sue Ellen Higbee.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Carver Cook, whom he married on June 27, 1981; his daughters, Vickie Bach of New Boston, Penny Stearns of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Elaine (Rick) Hobes of McDermott; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, November 7, 2025 at the McKinley Funeral Home, with Bud Mefford officiating. Burial will follow in Scioto Burial Park, with military graveside services by the William Baker and James Dickey posts, American Legion. Friends may call from 12:30 pm until the services on Friday at the funeral home.
