Clyde Leland Mowery

Clyde Leland Mowery of Lucasville, left this life on Saturday, June 21, 2025.  He was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 30, 1929 to the late Bert and Hazel Wallace Mowery.  Clyde was a Superintendent of Construction on both the New Cumberland and Greenup Dams and Superintendent on the building of a Strategic Air Force Base at Wright Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio.  He completed his last working assignment of thirty-seven years as Manager for Catalytic, Inc at USS/Aristech Chemicals, Haverhill, OH.

Clyde graduated from Washington (Portsmouth West) High School in 1947 and received an Associates Degree from Purdue University College of Industrial Management.  He served the Valley School Board for 16 years, was head of Labor Management on the Tri-State Labor Council for nine years, a member of the Poet Society of America and an avid bowler.  He was elected to the Scioto County Bowlers Hall of Fame in 2018 and awarded a medal in the Senior Olympics of Southern Ohio for Bowling in 2019. Clyde attended Center Street Church in Lucasville and Cornerstone Church of Portsmouth.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Peggy Jean Coakley Mowery, one sister, Wanda Lee Mowery, five brothers: Jack, Robert, Richard, Ronald, and Jerry Mowery, and his son-in-law, James Climer.

Surviving are his six children: Rebecca Climer, Steven (Leasa) Mowery, David (Piera) Mowery, Susanne (Robert) Cetrulo, Connie (Kenny) Boldman, and Phillip Mowery.

Fourteen grandchildren: Sean (Amber), Ryan, Brad (Cindi), Nick, and Grace Mowery; Steve Climer, Monica (Rickey) Sa-Ellis , Nikki (Thomas) Carver, Rob (Natalie) Cetrulo, Jacob Cetrulo, Courtney (Brandon) Holbrook, Treg (Whitney) Cunningham, Brittani (Jared) Bentley, and Larin (Chad) Perry. His 22 great-grandchildren include: Brynnli, Bella, Casey, Brody, Colin, and Catherine Mowery, Teo Sa-Ellis, Hadley, Hudson, and Harlow Holbrook, Jaxon, Nash, Bowen, and Josilyn Bentley, Kamri, Kolt, and Mila Perry, Everett and Lena Carver, Daphne Cetrulo, and Bear and Kai Cunningham.

Clyde leaves this world with lasting appreciation and love for those who shared his journey and gave him the blessing of these years.  Speaking figuratively, he stood on mountain tops that he fully expects to see again in another time and another place.   Paraphrasing the words of Ben Franklin: THE BODY OF CLYDE MOWERY, POET

LIKE THE COVER OF AN OLD BOOK, ITS CONTENTS TORN OUT AND STRIPPED OF ITS LETTERING AND GUILDING………BUT THE WORK SHALL NOT BE LOST, FOR IT WILL, AS HE BELIEVED, APPEAR ONCE MORE IN A NEW AND MORE ELEGANT EDITION.

A visitation and memorial service for Clyde Leland Mowery will be held Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Center Street Church, Lucasville, OH from 2:00-4:30 PM with a service immediately following. There will be a private interment at the convenience of the family. Services are under the direction of the McKinley Funeral Home.
