Roma June Shinkle Hiles

Roma June Shinkle Hiles, 94, of McDermott, passed away Monday, February 3, 2025 at her residence.

She was born November 4, 1930 in McDermott, a daughter of the late Charles Lynn LaMonda and Carrie Inez Taylor LaMonda. June was a 1948 McDermott High School graduate and a long-time member of the Rush Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Previously, she had worked at the Scioto County Courthouse, both in the Auditor’s Office and the Board of Elections. June had also worked as head cashier at Market Street Foodland, at Wayne’s Market, and was a long-time cook at Rest Haven Nursing Home.

In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her first husband, James Shinkle, on April 2, 1995; her second husband, James Hiles, on November 8, 2014; her daughter, Lisa Adams; and her son, Rick Shinkle.

She is survived by her sons, James Robert Shinkle of McDermott, Charlie Shinkle of McDermott, Dave (Penny Tucker) Shinkle of Urbana, and William R. Shinkle of McDermott; her daughter, Donna (Doug) Young of Lucasville; nine grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at noon on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville, with Tim Throckmorton officiating. Burial will follow in Rushtown Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 6, at the funeral home, and an hour before the services on Friday.
