Edward Harrison Cable
Edward Harrison Cable, 74, of Lucasville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 31, 2024 and is now with his son and family in Heaven.
He was born May 21, 1950 in Letcher County, Kentucky, a son of the late William and Mamie Laws Cable. Ed was a 1968 Northwest High School graduate and retired from the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, with 30 years of service. He served on the Northwest School Board for 32 years, coached girls’ high school softball at Northwest for 30 years and also coached little league. Ed earned several coaching awards, and the girls softball field at Northwest is named in his honor. He was a founding member of the Kiwanis Club of Lucasville and a volunteer at the Southern Ohio Medical Center. Ed loved the game of softball, played for 50 years, winning many pitching awards. He was inducted into the NAFA Softball Association Hall of Fame.
Ed was a member and High Priest in the McDermott Community of Christ and was a counselor at Camp Bountiful for many years. He loved his family, his church and serving the Lord, farming, and helping others.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his son, James Edward “Jimmy” Cable, and 11 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra DeLong Cable, whom he married on December 21, 1968 in Lucasville; his daughters, Tonda (Mark) Gonce of Grove City and Rebecca (Rufus) Tackett of Otway; his grandchildren, Adam (Megan) Gonce, Marcus (Hailey) Gonce, Cameron Gonce, Blake Montgomery, Jase Tackett, Levi Tackett, and Landon Williams; his great-grandchildren, Dillon and Lucas Gonce; his sisters, Ann Brannan of McDermott and Shirley Hammond of West Portsmouth; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Northwest High School, with Doug & Connie Altman officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the school. Arrangements are under the direction of the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville.
