Jacqueline Annette Buffington Carpenter

Jacqueline Annette Buffington Carpenter, 87, of Portsmouth, passed away at her home on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, surrounded by her family. Jackie was born on November 19, 1936, in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late William James and Verne Mae Webb Buffington.

A 1955 Portsmouth High School graduate, she received her ADN Degree from Shawnee State Community College in 1977. She worked at SOCF, SOMC and then retired after many years at the former Bellefonte Hospital in Kentucky. She also took care of many family members when needed. Jackie was a member and church pianist at First Church of God in New Boston. She spent many happy hours crafting and especially liked ceramics and wood painting. Along with her daughter Brenda, she was co-owner of The Craft Shack, formerly in Wheelersburg. A lady who truly lived her life to the fullest, she also enjoyed bowling, tap and ballroom dance, and competitive pairs roller skating. She formerly had a vendor space at The House of Twelve. However, in addition to her family, Jackie was known to love her Bichon Frise dogs dearly.

On March 1, 1995, Jackie married Everett R. Carpenter in Greenup, KY, and he survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Kimberly A. (Bill) Penn of Lucasville, Diana J. (Marvin Sr.) Blevins of Chillicothe and Cathi J. (Harry) Mullen of Portsmouth; two stepsons, Aaron (Lana) Carpenter of Georgetown, OH and Anthony (Aleisha) Carpenter of Vanceburg, KY; a stepdaughter, Cassie (Peter) Awang of Sacramento, CA; 15 grandchildren, Brandi (Jim) Stedding, Joshua (Heather) Hebb, Brandon (Chelsea) Evans, Philip (Jennifer) Holt, Tara (James) Ramey, Benjamin Evans, Jeanie Blevins, Marvin Blevins, Jr., Harry James Mullen, Alexander, Abigail, Hudson and Hayden Carpenter, and Nicholas and Zachary Awang; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Dee Buffington; and three siblings, Ralph F. Channel, Ethamae Mullins and Linda Lou Buffington.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Acy Gibson officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour on Saturday.
