Mary Sue Campbell

Mary Sue Campbell, 74, of Piketon, Ohio passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024 surrounded by her family at OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.  She was born January 28, 1950 in Salyersville, Kentucky daughter of the late Charlie and Ruby Mae Fletcher Jordan.  On July 25, 1992 she was united in marriage to Lowell Campbell who survives.  Also surviving two daughters, Brenda (David) Clemmons of Latham, Ohio and Nancy (Scott) Cool of Waverly, Ohio; stepdaughter, Sherry (Denny) Cox of Florida; stepson, Stewart (Linda) Campbell of North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Janet Campbell of Waverly; grandchildren, Misti Elliott, Megan Leslie, Jacob Leslie, Kali Hunt and Maci Caudill; many great and great great grandchildren; five sisters, Judy (Chris) Clark, Shirley Montgomery, Jenny (Jim) Blackburn, Cindy Vincent and Penny (Terry) May; and her brother, Calvin (Arlene) Jordan.  In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Lee Montgomery, a stepson, Timothy Campbell, a grandson, Reese Elliott, a sister, Nannie Belle Ward and a brother, Troy Jordan.

Mary loved the Lord, but her second love was her family.  She loved nothing more than getting family and friends together for a cookout at the cabin around the fire.  Where everyone expected her homemade chicken noodles to be front and center.  She loved and was very proud of where she was raised.  She visited Kentucky often and on September 2023 she had her last trip with her sisters and her daughters to the old cabin she lived in, the place where she was born and another family home site.  Mary was also proud of her Native American Heritage which she also instilled in her children and grandchildren.  She loved to garden.  Mary was blessed with a green thumb and always knew the tricks to make things grow. She loved to ride horses and her and Ted traveled all round on trail riding adventures.  She filled her home with warmth and kindness and when anyone visited she always had something cooking on the stove to feed them.  Mary was an adventurous grandma.  When you went to pick up grandchildren you never knew what you may find them doing.  Riding ponies, peeing off a bridge, eating chips out of the bag with their toes, swinging from a tree rope or sitting in the middle of a dirt pile playing in just a diaper.  But they were always happy and full at mama Sue’s.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor David Hopkins officiating.  Burial will follow in Gardner Cemetery.  Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday.
