Edna Charleene Wittenburg

Edna Charleene Wittenburg, 96, of Columbus, formerly of Portsmouth, passed away at the Willow Brook Christian Home in Columbus.  Born on May 9, 1927 in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late Glenn and Emma Riddlebarger Snyder.

Charleene was a 1944 graduate from PHS, was primarily a home maker, but retired from Marting’s Department Store after 25 years of service.

She loved spending time with her family, going to church, traveling, crafting, and shopping.

She also loved to sing and did so as a young girl at church, weddings, and funerals.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Howard “Red” Wittenburg, whom she married October 2, 1948, and who died February 18, 2008, and two siblings, Robert Snyder and Pauline Newman.

Surviving are two children, Sherry (Mark) McGoron of Worthington and Rick (Sharon) Wittenburg of Laurel, MS; a sister, Barbara Bretz of TN; three granddaughters, Brandi (Tom) Smith, Nicole (Rob) LaSota and Kendra Wittenburg; five great-grandchildren, Elijah Smith, Gabriel Smith, Maeve LaSota, Mikah Cole and Sage Wittenburg and many nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Tom Charles officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park.

The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
