Betty Joyce Jarrells, 78, of New Boston passed away Thursday June 22, 2023 at SOMC Hospice Center. Betty dedicated her life to the Lord at an early age and was a true soldier for Him. She was a missionary for 17 years in Mexico and brought back 14 children to help raise. She was a member of First Christian Holiness Church in New Boston where she served many years as the piano player, missionary leader, and a trustee. Betty loved people, she loved ministering to people, which she did daily.
Betty is survived by a sister, Carol Bentley of Clarktown; and a brother, Paul (Chae) Roberts of Copperas Cove, TX; sons, Miguel Reffit of Orlando, FL, Hector (Jennifer) Reffit, Mark (Stephanie) Reffit of Minford, Manuel (Peaches) Moreno, Fermin (Carmen) Mercado, Leonardo (Sylvia) Mercado of Rome, Ga, and Daniel Garza of Eagle Pass, TX; nine daughters, Teresa Roberts of Piedras Negras, Mexico, Patti (Joe) Conkel of Portsmouth, Sonia (Gustavo) Robles, Yesinia Reffit, and Irene Patterson all of Jackson, Carol (J.J.) Marx of Wheelersburg, Veronica (Jim) Jones of Otway and Sandra Charles (Andy) of Minford. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lou Edna Roberts; husband, Paul Allen Jarrells, three brothers, Harold “Fuzz” Roberts, Frankie Roberts, and Don Roberts; a sister, Lena Cougnet; daughters, Norma Moreno, Tita Moreno, Mary Ann Urista and her son Gerald Reffit; niece, Edna Mae (Roberts) Buck, nephew, Kevin Roberts, faithful friends and sisters in Christ, Helen Ruth Reffit, Enola Kingery, and Connie Harper.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday June 25, 2023 at First Christian Holiness Church in New Boston with Pastor Lorenzo Bentley and Mark Reffit officiating under the direction of D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in New Boston. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
