Daniel Hall
Daniel Hall, 88 ½, of Wheelersburg moved to Heaven on Sunday, June 4, 2023 at SOMC in Portsmouth. He was born Jan. 6, 1935 in Mingo County, West Virginia to the late Carl and Helen Hall.
He attended high school in Lenore, WV and graduated from Louisa, KY in 1952, Eureka College in 1956 and Butler University Theological Seminary with a MDiv in 1961. He was ordained as a minister in the Disciples of Christ church in 1964.
Daniel was retired as a minister from the Disciples of Christ, having served numerous churches, most recently in Williamson, WV. He managed to have a number of careers over his lifetime, including Assistant Food Service Director at Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis, welder at Belville Mining in Wheelersburg, and he retired as a bridge inspector with ODOT. He participated in many community activities, including being an assistant Scoutmaster and Life Scout with Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Jaycees and Masons at Whitehall, IL, a member of the Scioto County Republican Club where he and Ellen hosted the Eastern Club summer picnic, served as a Porter Township Precinct committeeman for several years and a volunteer for Group and Reach Workcamps, repairing houses for low income and elderly people while teaching carpentry and roofing skills to scores of youth volunteers. Daniel loved football. He was a dedicated story teller. He loved meeting and learning about new people, and he loved his family fiercely.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Helen Hall, his beloved wife of 49 years Ellen Hall, his in-laws Freelan and Hazel Damron, his brother Carl Hall, sister Margie Reeder, and sisters-in-law Marilyn Hall and Carol Damron.
He is survived by his children Renee Storey of Portsmouth, Sherri (Keith) Caughfield of Rye, CO, Victoria (Teri) Salisbury of Turloc, CA, Brian (Jill) Raison of Bellbrook, OH, Martha (Roger) Smith of Lebanon, IN, Bill (Jane) Raison of Wheelersburg, OH and Emma (Sam) Sharp of Lebanon; and his grandchildren Ian Storey, Rosa (Holly) Storey, Hannah (Eric) Grimm, Kaitlyn Caughfield, Jacob (Ruhika) Caughfield, Alicia Caughfield, Aaron, Rachel, and Joshua Salisbury, Abbey and Claire Raison, Roth (Allison) Cardona, Connor and Brenna Smith, Emily (Nathan) DeCamp, Grace Raison, and Madelynn Sharp, and one great-grandson James Francis Grimm. Also surviving are his brother Ben (Linda) Hall, brother-in-law Max Damron, and many precious nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 6PM on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Christ’s Community Church in Portsmouth, OH, with visitation at the church from 4-6PM before the service. He will be laid to rest along with Ellen in Mingo County, West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to SOMC Hospice, The Heifer Project or to a charity of your choice.
