Billy “Bill” Miller

Billy “Bill” Miller, 87, of Wheelersburg, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday March 24, 2023 at his residence following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born October 17, 1935 in Scioto County and was a giving person who was known for his sense of humor- always loving a good joke and having a good laugh.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served as a Paratrooper and a Green Beret.

He was a charter member of the Porter Township Rescue Association, a Special Deputy with the Scioto County Sheriff Department and former Chief with the Scioto County Bomb Squad. Bill was an advanced EMT and a CPR Instructor with the American Heart Association. He also served the community with volunteer work on the Board of Shawnee Mental Health Center and was active with the Parkinson’s Support group and exercise program.

His love for the Lord was exemplified by teaching the youth in Sunday School, ushering, serving on the building committee, and sound technician at various churches. He was a member at Berean Baptist Church in Sciotoville, Ohio.

Bill is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 66 years, Joyce (Brown) Miller; children, Mike (DeAnna) Miller of Peebles, Cheryl (Gary) Shupe of Jamestown, Becky (Brad) Rickard of Columbus, Kim (Lowell) Pollock of Frankfort and Stephen (Michelle) Miller of Jamestown; brother, Jim Kurtz;
Grandchildren, Michelle Bentley, Allison Gilbaugh, Kim Baumgardner, Alex Pollock, Rebecca Pollock and Elizabeth Miller. Great-grandchildren, Jacob Shope-Miller, Daylen Bentley, Carson Gilbaugh, Margot Baumgardner and soon to arrive Naomi Gilbaugh. He very much loved and enjoyed his family and looked forward to each visit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Gertrude Miller; sisters, Willa Douglas and Linda McCleary; grandchildren, April Dawn and Katherine Miller and great granddaughter Chloe LeeAnn.

Funeral Services will be 11 AM Wednesday March 29, 2023 at D.W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in Wheelersburg with Pastors Brad Rickard and Steve Mann officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg with Military Honors by James Dickey Post 23, American Legion.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday and 10 to 11 AM prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
