Helen Ramona Hale

Helen Ramona Hale, 97, of McDermott, completed her earthly journey on Thursday, August 14, 2025, and her heavenly father has welcomed her into his kingdom as another bright and smiling angel.

She was born on June 29,1928 in Samaria, KY to the late James Harvey and Inez Stephens Barber. She graduated from Paul Blazer High School in Ashland, Ky and Ashland Cosmetology College.

Helen was proceeded in death by her husband Joseph Edward Hale in 2022; her son William “Bill” Hale in 2023 and infant son Jackie. She is survived by her daughter Patricia (Larry) Moore of McDermott; son Joseph Lee (Flowie) Hale of McDermott and sister Sue Howell of Portsmouth. She is also survived by grandchildren, Shelly Taylor, Angela (Tod) Wiget, Carmen (Brad) Smith, Nicolas Hale (Tracey) Broughton, Eric Hale and Dylan Hale, Angie Octave, Misti Gracia and Scott Moore; 10 great grandchildren, 4 great, great children and special people in her life Jeff Taylor, Jan Delabar, Janice Waller and Denise Jenkins whom she loved dearly.

Helen was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She retired from Marting’s Department Store as their Millinery and Wig department manager. She and her husband Joe spent many wonderful winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida where she will be missed by their many friends there.

She was a life-long member of the McDermott United Methodist Church and also attended South Webster Grace Methodist Church in her later years. She was a member of the Lucasville Eastern Star and very active in BPW (business and professional women of Portsmouth) the Portsmouth Shrine Club Auxiliary, Green Triangle Garden Club, the Goodyear Atomic Energy Plant Women’s Auxiliary and served many years on various committees in her church.

Helen loved living on her farm and was blessed to be able to spend her final days there. She enjoyed watching her many birds and squirrels. Her hobbies included gardening, her many flowers, golf and making quilts. She was also a very talented artist and very creative in making crafts.

Services will be held at 6:00 pm Sunday, August 17, 2025 at the McKinley Funeral Home, with Larry Moore officiating. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, August 18, 2025 at Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until the funeral services Sunday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank all the staff at SOMC Hospice for their love and care. They would also like to thank Dr. Kerri Kuhn for her wonderful care, friendship and compassion.
