Charles “Marvin” Carver

Charles “Marvin” Carver, 66, of Otway, moved to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Marvin was a Godly man who devoutly loved the Lord and his family. He was a humble man who left a legacy of kindness and a genuine heart.

He was born August 5, 1958 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Charles “Junior” and Betty Phipps Carver. Before leaving his earthly home, he was married to his high school sweetheart, Karla Howard Carver, whom he married May 10, 1980 at Big Run United Baptist Church.

Marvin graduated from Northwest High School in 1976, was a member of the Ironworkers Local Union 172, and an enthusiastic high school sports fan, thanks in part to his athletically talented grandchildren. Other than his devotion to the Lord and his love for his family and friends, Marvin LOVED to hunt and run beagles, and was a member of both the Rarden Coonhunters Club and the Otway Foxhunters Club. Marvin was also a moderator at Big Run United Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond Carver and Jerry Carver, and his sister, Kay Boggs.

Among the many people who called Marvin a part of their family, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karla Carver; his sons, Adam (Sara) Carver of West Portsmouth and Dougie Carver at home; his daughter, Kathy Carver of Rarden; his bonus daughter, Carrie Breech, of Rarden; his grandchildren Carson, Hailey, and Hunter (Shealynn); his brothers, Ralph (Gail) Carver of Lucasville and Tom (Donna) Carver of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and a herd of grand-dogs and grand-goats.

Services for Marvin Carver will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, December 23, 2024 at Big Run United Baptist Church, with Charlie Montgomery, Amos Moore, and Kelly Carver officiating. Burial will follow in Big Run Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 pm Saturday, December 21, 2024, until the funeral services at the church. Services are under the direction of the McKinley Funeral Home.

As Marvin would say, “Folks, you have a God that loves you-uns and you better make sure your little ole soul is right.”
