John Richard Shirey

John Richard Shirey, 74, originally from Otway, Ohio passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at his home.  He was born January 5, 1950 in Portsmouth, Ohio. He was the son of the late Harold and Rosie Sissel Shirey.

He was an electrician and served in the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam veteran.

Surviving are his children, Jennifer Shirey Estep and Jason Shirey; a granddaughter, Ariel Estep; and the joys of his life, his great-grandchildren, Amelia and Declan Breech; his brothers, Edgar (Kay) Shirey, Sam (Thelma) Shirey, and Jeff (Phyllis) Shirey; sisters, June Stephens, Kathy Liles, Denise (Butch) Fitzpatrick, Sue (Marlin) Davis and Rita (Dave) Kingrey; and many nieces, nephews and friends.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Robin and Jerry Shirey; a sister, Phyllis Shirey; his former wife and lifelong companion Anna Arlene Chapman; and an infant daughter, Aneysa Shirey.

The family would like to thank PCM home healthcare and Buckeye hospice for their wonderful care of John in his last days.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2024 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Otway with Rev. Marlin Davis officiating.  Burial will follow in Koenig Cemetery on Tick Ridge in Otway.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
