James Ashur Stephenson

James Ashur Stephenson, 85, of Piketon, Ohio passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at Adena Pike Medical Center in Waverly.  He was born August 13, 1939 in Pike County, Ohio to the late Arnold Blaine and Farrel Magdalen Leeth Stephenson.  On June 22, 1961 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Dever Stephenson who survives.  Also surviving are his daughters, Jacqueline Kay Stephenson of Waverly and Amy Lynn (Andy) Pettit of Waverly; grandchildren, James Michael Burkitt of Columbus, Kyle Vulgamore of Beaver, Jared (Kennedy) Vulgamore of Chillicothe and Cody (Cameron) Vulgamore of Waverly; great-grandchildren, Zane Vulgamore and Roman Vulgamore; sisters, Deborah Kay Stephenson of Ft. Myers, Florida, Crystal Lehman of Waverly and Carla Michelle Bushatz of Chillicothe; and a special niece, Sherry Dever of Bainbridge.

Ashur was a 1956 graduate of Western High School.  He was a member of Ironworkers Local 172 and loved bluegrass music.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 20, 2024 at Gardner Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly.
