Inez Lorene Diles
Inez Lorene Diles (nee Pruitt), age 97, passed away at her home in Huber Heights, Ohio on Saturday, May 25, 2024, after a long illness. She was born on February 17, 1927, in Salt Lick (Lewis County), KY, the daughter of the late Ithiel Bennett Pruitt and Amanda Ellen Cropper Moore.
In her early life, she worked at the former Selby Shoe Company and the former Manhattan Hotel and Restaurant in Portsmouth, Ohio. It was there that she met the love of her life, Curtis Diles, Jr. They were wed on September 25, 1948, at the Mabert Road Baptist Church in Portsmouth, and had been married for nearly 66 years at the time of Curt’s passing on September 10, 2014. Inez spent the rest of her life longing to be with Curt again.
Inez was truly an angel on earth. If you had the pleasure of meeting her, you had a life-long friend. She loved everyone, and everyone loved her. Inez exemplified the cheerful giver, and her greatest joy was sharing her blessings with others. She never missed a birthday nor an opportunity to encourage people. She often said her ministry was sending greeting cards. She spent her days reading the Bible, praising God, and praying for her family and friends. She lived a sacrificial life as Jesus did. While raising her family, she also took care of her invalid mother. Inez was a homemaker and kept an impeccable house. She was a wonderful cook and joyfully served her family three hot meals each day. Most days, the delicious aroma of beans and cornbread and mom’s reassuring humming greeted us when we came home from school. Although there were periods during her later years when she was quite ill, she always put others first and did not want to be a burden. She saw the good in people and never uttered a harsh or negative word about them. Inez was the mother everyone wished they had. There has never been a more selfless, kind-hearted, loving, compassionate, generous person on this side of heaven. She was a dedicated member of the First Christian Church of Huber Heights and is now in the arms of Jesus and her loving husband. What a reunion that must have been!
Inez is survived by her four children, Dennis M. (Beverly) of Sunbury, Teresa K. (Jack) Guidry of Huber Heights, J. Diane (Chuck) Hammond of Dayton, and Tamara L. (John) Meese of Blanchester; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren (and another great-granddaughter due in July) whom she adored and proudly spoke of; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Inez was preceded in death by her sister, Olive Ginn; stepfather, Mina Moore; three nephews; and one niece.
