Russell Lucas

Russell Lucas, 90, of Lucasville, Ohio passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024 in SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio.  He was born February 10, 1934 in Scioto County, Ohio son of the late Ernest and Mary Brickey Lucas. On August 6, 1956 he was united in marriage to Janice Barbara Lucas who preceded him in death on April 14, 2021.  Russell is survived by two sons; Ronald and Melody “Mitzi” Lucas of Lucasville and Jeff and Denise Lucas of Lucasville; four grandchildren, Kerri and Josh Richardson, Russell “Rusty” Lucas, Chelsey and Jimmy Thomas and Michael and Mason Lucas; ten great grandchildren, Brayden Richardson, Wyatt Richardson, Addison Lucas, Paisley Richardson, Ava Mae Thomas, Ellie Jo Lucas, Amelia Jean Thomas, Josie Elizabeth Lucas, Ridge Ellis Lucas and Jolene James Thomas; a brother, Roy and Kathy Lucas of West Portsmouth; and sisters, Marjorie Jo and Paul Kennedy of Minford and Elizabeth Coldiron of Portsmouth.  In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by sisters, Nellie Kathleen Hileman, Barbara Conley and Edith Hopkins.

Russell proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He retired from the Steel Mill in Portsmouth and later retired from ODOT in Pike County.  He loved farming, going to the stock sale and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2024 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Larry Moore officiating.  Burial will follow in Smith Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 at the funeral home.
