Doris Herdman
Doris Herdman, 101, of Portsmouth, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026 at SOMC Hospice. She was born September 21, 1924 in Buena Vista, to the late Arnold and Carrie (Rayburn) Collignon.
A lifelong and devoted member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, she generously shared her time and talents through the Ladies Guild, school volunteer programs, and numerous parish ministries and activities. Her faith, service, and dedication to her church community touched the lives of many.
Taking great pride in her community, she devoted countless hours to serving others and was honored with the RSVP Length of Service Award in 2010 in recognition of her volunteer efforts. Her dedication extended to Meals on Wheels, the Catholic Charities Food Bank, and the Monastery of the Poor Clares.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Colliver Herdman, a brother, Bernard Collignon, and four sisters, Berniece Coleman, Carabel Jayne, Marcella Jones, and Marie Ward.
She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Connar (Doug) of Marion, Ohio, a son, James Herdman (Angela) of Oakland, Michigan; three grandchildren, Jonathan Connar (Rebecca), Alison Mausser (Matthew), and Madeleine Herdman, three great-granddaughters, Reagan, Morgan, and Olivia Connar, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Portsmouth with Father Michael Fulton officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. A visitation for friends and family will be on Tuesday, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, with a Recitation of the Rosary immediately following the visitation at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to SOMC Hospice.
