Larry Green
Larry Green, 79, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, May 9, 2026 at SOMC Hospice. He was born October 7, 1946 in Portsmouth to the late Sebert and Eleanor Lansing Green.
Larry was a 1964 graduate of Portsmouth West High School and a United States Army veteran.
Larry was an artist in every sense of the word. He found joy and expression through painting, drawing, and especially music. While stationed in Germany during his military service, he played in a band called the Green Gremlins, and music continued to be a constant part of his life through many other bands over the years. He lived life with a true free spirit, always chasing experiences, creativity, and adventure. Holding a maritime license, Larry spent many years working and living on boats, his life carried him to many places and many stories along the way. He embraced life fully and lived it with abundance.
He is survived by a son, Rodney Green of Portsmouth; 2 daughters, Wendy (Christopher) Toy and Shawnda Green, both of Florida; a sister, Tonja (Timothy) Aldridge; 7 grandchildren, Kayla Green, Megan Walker, Dakota Green, Matthew Green, Ashley Green, Connor Toy, and Collin Toy, all of Florida; 3 great-grandchildren, Lillie Green, William Pohorenee, and Ella Pohorenee, all of Florida; along with many friends and family who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, May 14, 2026 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with Timothy Aldridge officiating. Interment will be in Lucasville Cemetery with military graveside rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at noon on Thursday.
