Rev. Oscar Lee Perry
Rev. Oscar Lee Perry, 89, of Lucasville, passed away Friday, April 10, 2026 at his residence.
He was born December 21, 1936 in Prichard, West Virginia, a son of the late Otto and Ruth Brumfield Perry. Oscar started working on the railroad at age 14, and in 1952, after finishing his freshman year in High School, he dropped out of school to work full-time on the railroad. Later, at age 19, he was saved in the church, where he met his future wife. Oscar was called to the ministry, where he received his Bachelor of Divinity in 1960 from Arlington Baptist College in Texas. Oscar began pastoring in 1964. He then earned his master’s degree from Moody Bible Institute and Doctor of Divinity. Oscar pastored for 44 years, including 28 years at Portsmouth Baptist Church. In 2015, after 63 years, he obtained his GED through Scioto County ABLE.
Oscar served on the boards of Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, where he also served on the planning committee, and on the board of Shawnee Family Health Centers. He was also Chaplain at SOMC and at SOMC Hospice, and was an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dudley Wilson and Donald Perry, and two sisters, Sue Perry and Doris McComas.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Bramley Perry, who he married on August 17, 1957 in Wadsworth, Ohio; his three daughters, Cindy (Randy) Howard of Arlington, Texas; Debbie (Jeff) Lewis of Lucasville, and Karen (Bo) Deems of Wheelersburg; two sisters, Lois Douglas of Georgia and Wilma Kammer of Kansas; seven grandchildren, Brad (Allison) Howard, Elliot (Jill) Howard, Erica (Robert) Cave, Jeremy (April) Wente, Jonathon (Jessica) Wente, Emily (Jarod) Walls, and April (Josh) Keeney; his great-grandchildren, Sophie, Aaron, Aubrey, Elizabeth, Jake, Ryan, Hannah, Kylee, Adrea, Bryan, Mason, Jace, Bailey, Lucas, Graham, Ava, Jack, Noah, Emery, and Millie; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kyra and Benjamin.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at the McKinley Funeral Home, with Al Owens and Larry Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Scioto Cemetery on Cockrell’s Run Road. Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, April 13, 2026 at the funeral home, and an hour before the services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
