Kenneth Allen “Kenny” Atkins

Kenneth Allen “Kenny” Atkins, 62, of Lucasville, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2026 at the James Medical Center at the Ohio State University in Columbus.

He was born July 3, 1963 in Portsmouth, Kenny was the son of the late James Atkins and Dee Ann Mingus Atkins. A 1981 graduate of Valley High School, Kenny was a hardworking and dependable man who took pride in everything he did. He spent many years working as a maintenance technician at New Boston Coke and at SunCoke Energy in Haverhill, a proud member of the United Steelworkers Union, where his skills, dedication, and willingness to help others earned the respect of his coworkers.

Kenny had a true love for the outdoors and enjoyed spending his free time at dirt track races, proudly known by his dirt track number, 22K, riding side-by-sides, and enjoying the open road on his Indian motorcycles. Whether it was the sound of engines, the thrill of the track, or simply being outside, these were the moments that brought him the most joy.

On October 2, 2021, Kenny married his wife, Jennifer Ann Meisel, at the Lake White Boat Club. He was a devoted husband and a proud father to his daughter, Peyton Howard. Beyond his deep love for Jennifer and Peyton, Kenny was also devoted to his many, many dogs—Potchin, Winnie, Cujo, Bella, and Poppy—and to the many beloved dogs who crossed the rainbow bridge before him. They were family to him and brought him endless happiness and companionship.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Jennifer; his daughter, Peyton; his brothers, James Atkins and Nathan Atkins; and his sister, Amanda Gail Atkins. He will also be deeply missed by his Coon Hollow Holler community, who became family to him, along with many friends and extended family whose lives he touched.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at McKinley Funeral Home. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
