Helen Shelvajean Royster Stapleton
Helen Shelvajean Royster Stapleton, 83, of Lucasville, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2025 at SOMC Hospice.
She was born December 17, 1942 in Paulding County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Clyde and Martha Horsley Royster. Helen worked in the housekeeping department at the former Portsmouth Receiving Hospital and retired from Southern Ohio Medical Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Bowling; three brothers, Leslie Royster, Arwood Royster, and Herman Royster; and her companion, George Burney.
Helen enjoyed spending time with her family and especially with her dog, Zoey. She also enjoyed baking and was famous for her strawberry and cinnamon cakes.
Helen is survived by her sisters, Carol Vicars of Lucasville and Sharon Sowards of Twin Valley; her niece Renauta (Oran) Crabtree of Lucasville; and her beloved pet dog, Zoey.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Friday, December 26, 2025 at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 pm until the services at the funeral home.
