Joyce Ann Montavon

Joyce Ann Montavon, 71, of McDermott, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at her residence.

She was born April 30, 1954 in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Ira Ray Powell and Mearl Jewett Powell. Joyce was a 1972 Northwest High School and Portsmouth Interstate Business College graduate who obtained her RN degree from Shawnee State University. She retired as a registered nurse from the Southern Ohio Medical Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Eric Montavon; three brothers, Darryl Powell, Paul Powell, and Bill Powell; and four sisters, Delores Alexander, Linda Campbell, Juwan Simpson, and Evelyn Williams.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Danny Montavon, who she married on December 23, 1977 in Portsmouth; two daughters, Leigh Anne Smith of McDermott, and Dr. Julie (Alex) Bernstein of Atlanta, Georgia; three brothers, Forrest (Darlene) Powell, Joseph Powell, and Phillip Powell; five sisters, Sharon Cook, Gladys Hurt, Diane Jewett, Sheryl Penn, and Judy Powell; a special niece, Veronica Smith; and nine grandchildren.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family, with burial in Garvin Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville.
