Harold G. Hoffer,

Harold G. Hoffer, 69, of McDermott, passed through the gates of Heaven surrounded by his family on Monday, November 17, 2025 at his residence.

He was born December 16, 1955 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Harold and Ruth Tracy Hoffer. Harold was a 1974 Northwest High School graduate, and a veteran of the US Army where he served four years and the US Naval Reserves, where he served 2 years. He was awarded the Army Accommodation, Good Conduct, and National Defense Service medals. Harold was a retired operating engineer and member of Operators Local #18. He was also one of the pastors at Pleasant Hill Community Church. Harold was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, and Ohio State Buckeyes.

Harold is survived by his wife, Denise Knittel Hoffer of McDermott, whom he married on August 24, 1974 in Otway. He and Denise grew up together and were high school sweethearts, having been married over 51 years. He is also survived by his son, Shawn (Jessica) Hoffer of McDermott; his daughter, Marisa (Dale) Altman of McDermott; his sisters, Carol (Gary) Justice of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Portia Harris of Lucasville; four grandchildren, Aurora Altman, Madalie Hoffer, Miley Altman, and Eli Hoffer; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Dannie Harris, and a nephew, Chad Harris.

The family would like to thank Hospice for their care and support, with special thanks to Mary and Robin.

Services will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at the McKinley Funeral Home, with Curt Carver officiating. Burial will follow in Garvin Cemetery, with military graveside services by the William Baker and James Irwin posts, American Legion. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
