Mary Lou Giamporcaro
Mary Lou Giamporcaro, 95, of McDermott, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
She was born October 3, 1929 in Flat Rock, Michigan, a daughter of the late Fred “Obel” and Donna Copas Gillette. Mary was a 1947 McDermott High School graduate. She was married to Albert John Giamporcaro, who preceded her in death March 23, 2021.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill (Bessie) Gillette and Everett (Teresa) Gillette, and her sisters, Roma (Bill) Lute, Betty (Richard) Strickland, and Peggy (Bill) Jewett.
Mary is survived by her children; John “Steve” Middaugh of Florida, David (Laurie) Gillette of Virginia, Connie (Barry) Picklesimer of Lucasville, Randall (Lauri) Giamporcaro of Florida, Tony Giamporcaro of McDermott, and Paula Giamporcaro of McDermott; her brothers, Frank (Jeanie) Gillette of Lucasville, and Mick (Brenda) Gillette of McDermott; her sisters, Donna (Frank) Rose of McDermott, Jude (Bernard) Delong of Lucasville, and Sandy (Millard) Fugitt of McDermott; 10 grandchildren; and18 great-grandchildren.
Mary was never shy of contributing to the welfare of her family, as she held numerous jobs throughout her life. This included working her first job at Selby Shoe Company. While waitressing in Portsmouth, she met her husband, Albert, of New Jersey, who was a traveling high structure union steel painter. After their marriage, Mary & Albert traveled and ended up outside Buffalo, New York, where she worked for Fisher Price, Cox Plastics, JovCo Plastics, and General Mills. From there, they moved back to Ohio, where Mary & Al ran a small successful general store, “Wayside Market”, for 32 years.
Services for Mary, and her husband Albert who died during COVID, will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, December 9, 2024, at McDermott Community of Christ, with Bob Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until the services at the church.
