Donald Max Nichols
Donald Max Nichols, age 88, Lexington, husband of Mary K. Bauer Nichols, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 4th, 2023 at Chi Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Lexington Kentucky. Born January 16th, 1935 in Huntington, West Virginia, he was the son of Wallace Gene Nichols and Maria Elsie Copley both of Huntington, WV, Don was a Naval officer, who served on DO, USS Antietam/ aircraft carrier for 4 years. He was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Metal. After serving his country he established Nichols Doors and Hardware. He eventually retired at age 80. He spent the rest of his retirement years enjoying his passion for tennis.
Survivors other than his wife include his children Eric Rick (Melissa) Nichols, Rebecca (Jim) Cammelleri, Maria Pendland, and Gwen Camille Pendland. Surviving grandchildren: Michele Atkinson, Tyler (Kelly Borders) Glockner, Sarah (Robert) Shields, Olivia Nichols, Ana Portales, Lilia Portales, Giovanni Chhabra. Great Grandchild, Christian Glockner. Surviving sibling Linda Solinger. We want to acknowledge his daughter Donna Watson who recently passed.
Visitation service will be conducted on Friday March 10th, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at D. W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in Wheelersburg, Ohio. A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 pm Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at Saint Peter in Chains Catholic Church in Wheelersburg, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Don’s name to Bluegrass Racquet Club, 151 Healthy Lane, Nicholasville, KY 40316. Please include Don’s full name in the memo.
