Shirley Arlene Conklin

Shirley Arlene Conklin, 87, of Charlotte, NC, a longtime Portsmouth resident, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, in Huntersville, NC. Shirley was born July 28, 1935, in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Dorothy Marie (Moss) and James Woodrow Alexander.

A 1953 Clay High School graduate, she was a member of the Clay Alumni Association. Shirley had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church when in Portsmouth, and was currently a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church North Campus in Concord. She was retired from Glockner Auto Sales where she had worked as a secretary.

On September 7, 1957, Shirley married Boyd Eugene “Gene” Conklin in Portsmouth. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2009.

Surviving is her daughter, Gina Dawn Tobin of Concord; and three grandchildren, Keelyenne Shae Tobin, Timothy Luke Tobin and Maire Moss Tobin.

Funeral services are to be announced.
