Nancy Ann (Hathaway) Kelley

On February 1, 2022, our fierce and wonderful mom left this world to begin her next journey.  Born on June 2, 1939 in Clay County, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Clay and Marie Rogers Hathaway.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, William Kelley, Sr. and siblings, Kathleen, Billy and Richard.

Being the daughter of a coal miner, she learned how to manage any situation thrown at her.  Mom took that knowledge and passed it on to her children on how to be strong and overcome.

Mom graduated from Spencer High School in Spencer, WV in 1957 and married William Kelley on June 24, 1957 after, as she put it, “chased her around Murphy’s Five and Dime in Spencer”.  Dad always said mom was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and was still saying it after 60 years of marriage.

After getting married, they relocated to Ohio and had four children; “Butch” (Carole) Beth (Paul), Scott (Debbie) and Laura (Shawn).

Mom worked for several years at Carr’s Jewelry in Portsmouth, but she was a mother first and foremost.  She then became Nan-Nan to Sara, Trey, Andrew, Joshua, Elizabeth and Matthew and later came the great-grandchildren, Aidan, Weston, Grace, Connor, Duncan, Nolan, Wynn and Capp.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE.

A gathering will be at Brant’s from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4th.
