Sheriff Marty V. Donini has been the chief law enforcement officer in this county for 23 years-now, he wants to be a Scioto County Commissioner. Wednesday, just 35 minutes before the filing deadline to be included in the March Republican primary, Donini officially filed his petitions in the office of the Scioto County Board of Elections office and will be pitted against incumbent Commissioner Mike Crabtree on March 17th, of 2020.

Donini told The Scioto Voice he will issue a comment soon.

In other races, Cathy Coleman will not face opposition in the Republican primary for the other spot, but will square off against Democrat John McHenry later that fall, while Democrat Matt Seifert will run against the winner of the Crabtree-Donini race.

A pair of Republicans will vie for the Scioto County Sheriff’s position, as no Democrat filed by the deadline. Scioto County Sheriff Captain John Murphy and David Thoroughman, the Director of Public Safety at Shawnee State University, will compete for that opportunity.

Scioto County Prosecutor Shane Tieman will run unopposed, as will Scioto County Treasurer and Ohio Treasurer of the Year, Bill Ogg.

Scioto County Engineer Darren LeBrun, Scioto County Recorder Gail Alley and Scioto County Clerk of Courts, Kathy Shupert will all run without opposition as well.
