Single Fatal Crash
The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred around 6:50 p.m. on June 10, 2019. The crash happened on Gallia Pike approximately a quarter mile north of Ironton Ave., in Green Township.
The drive, Clara R. Clermont, age 38 of Ironton, Ohio, was driving a maroon 2001 Ford Explorer southbound on Gallia Pike. Ms Clermont drove off the west side of the road, went down an embankment, struck a utility pole and overturned. Ms. Clermont was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center for non-life threating injuries.
The right front passenger, Timothy Stapleton, age 53, of Ironton, Ohio, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected and trapped underneath the vehicle. Mr. Stapleton was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Drug Impairment is believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation by troopers at the Portsmouth Post of the State Highway Patrol.
