OSHP Pursuit on US23 Near Portsmouth
Portsmouth – On Monday, November 5th at about 3:30pm, a Trooper from the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was directing traffic in a construction zone on
U.S. 23 in Lucasville. A subject in a 2006 White Chevy Cobalt drove through the construction zone at a high rate of speed, nearly striking the Trooper and several road workers. The driver continued on U.S. 23 at a high rate of speed. Units pursued the subject southbound towards Portsmouth.
The pursuit ended when the driver lost control in Rosemount and crashed into a State Patrol cruiser.
The driver, Joshua Longworth, 19, of Lucasville was taken into custody without further incident. Mr. Longworth was found to be in possession of 2 loaded firearms and 5 knives. He was charged with multiple felonies including failure to comply, improper handling of a firearm while intoxicated, driving under the influence and felonious assault .
Mr. Longworth was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash. He was treated and released then incarcerated in the Scioto County Jail.
The Ohio Highway Patrol was assisted by units from the Portsmouth Police Department and Rosemount Squad 12 .
