Robert Duane McDowell

Robert Duane McDowell, 74, of Northport, FL, a former Columbus resident, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 in Port Charlotte, FL. Bob was born in Portsmouth, a son of the late Richard McDowell Sr. and Thelma Darlene Oliver McDowell.

He was a graduate of the Ohio State University where he earned a  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. He was also a 1961 graduate of PHS where he was a member of the band and an accomplished trumpeter. Bob was an extraordinary mathematician, having earned two firsts on the State of Ohio scholastic exams. He was also a Vietnam era Army veteran where he played trumpet in the 79th Army Band. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his military service.

Surviving Bob is his wife, Teri Dale Bennett McDowell, whom he married in Columbus on August 30, 1968;  a son, Robert D. McDowell Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC; three daughters, Tammy Renee (Scott) Hudson of El Cajon, CA, Shelley Dawn (Steve) Johnson of Dublin, Tiffany Michele McDowell of Cincinnati; one brother, Richard McDowell Jr. of Portsmouth; twelve grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ronald D. McDowell.

Military Graveside Services will be conducted by the James Dickey Post #23 American Legion Honor Detail at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018 in Memorial Burial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to gather at the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME by 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A Memorial Service will be held at noon on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Worthington (OH) Christian Church. A luncheon will be served at 1 p.m.
