Wanted Felon Pursued by OSHP
Portsmouth – On Tuesday, July 31st at 3:00pm, a Trooper from the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol attempted to stop a vehicle traveling south on U.S. 23 near the Highway Patrol Post for a marked lanes violation. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued involving units from the State Patrol. The pursuit ended when the driver lost control and crashed into a parked vehicle on a parking lot in Portsmouth.
The driver, Carlos Hernandez, 31, of Michigan was taken into custody without further incident. Mr. Hernandez is a registered sex offender who was wanted on a felony warrant for a parole violation from Michigan. He was charged with multiple felonies including failure to comply, weapons under disability, and child endangering. Mr. Hernandez was incarcerated in the Scioto County Jail.
Mr. Hernandez’ wife and two step-children, ages 8 and 9 were in the car also. They were transported to SOMC for treatment of minor injuries.
The Ohio Highway Patrol was assisted by units from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department, Portsmouth Police Department, Portsmouth Fire Department Medic 2 and Portsmouth Ambulance.
