Michael Gordon Lewis

Michael Gordon Lewis, 79, of Chillicothe, died Thursday, July 23, 2026, at his home. He was born September 8, 1946, to the late Hassel and Helen Sparks Lewis. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Ronald, and Bennie Lewis.

Michael was a 1965 graduate of Portsmouth West High School. He worked for the Norfolk and Western Railway, both in the repair shop and as a cook on the wreck train. He was an excellent chef and a talented candy maker who enjoyed sharing his creations with family and friends. Michael was also a skilled woodworker, making furniture for his home as well as toys for his nieces and nephews. He spent many hours working on the family farm and was a member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge No. 769.

Michael is survived by his wife of 55 years, Deborah McDowell Lewis; his sister-in-law, Lana Lewis; and nieces and nephew; Rebecca Martin, Teresa Powell, Christina Henry, Jennifer Essman and Ron Lewis Jr..

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with Samuel Lore officiating. Interment will follow at Scioto Burial Park in McDermott. A Masonic service, conducted by Nauvoo Masonic Lodge No. 769, will be held at 12:00 PM Noon. Friends may gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, beginning at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Adena Hospice in Michael’s memory.
