Portsmouth Man Arrested on Drug Charges
PORTSMOUTH, OH – July 2, 2026 – Portsmouth Police Chief Debby Brewer and Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman announced the arrest of a Portsmouth man following a successful drug investigation conducted by the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force.
On July 1, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., investigators from the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force, with the tactical support of the Portsmouth Police Department SWAT team, executed a narcotics-related search warrant at 1670 3rd St., Portsmouth, Ohio.
During the search of the residence, officers seized approximately 12 grams of suspected cocaine, digital scales, $2,530 in U.S. currency, and various items indicative of drug trafficking activity.
Roger Jones, 71, of Portsmouth, was taken into custody at the scene. He is charged with Trafficking in Drugs and Possession of Drugs, both of which are third-degree felonies.
Mr. Jones is currently being held at the Scioto County Jail and is scheduled for arraignment in Portsmouth Municipal Court today, July 2, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. The case will be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office for presentation to a Scioto County Grand Jury, where consideration for additional felony charges will occur.
