Mary Sherlene Pence

Mary Sherlene Pence, 79, of Lucasville, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2026 at her daughter, Shirley’s residence.

She was born June 2, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland, a daughter of the late Edward and Wanda James Otworth. Mary was a retired nursing assistant from Southern Ohio Medical Center and attended New Hope Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Pence Sr., on September 21, 2007; a grandson Justin Goddard; and three sisters, Connie Otworth, Debbie Otworth, and Janet Johnson.

Mary is survived by three daughters, Shirley Rawlins of Lucasville, Sandra (Mike) Walton of Tampa, Florida, and Laura “Lottie” Spears (Roger Russell) of Lucasville; a son, Stanley V. Pence Jr. of Lucasville; three brothers, Edward Otworth Jr. of Marion, Keith Otworth of Lucasville, and Robert Stamper of Sciotoville; five sisters, Naomi Blanton of Lucasville, Debra Otworth of Minford, Teresa (Joe) Thayer of Lucasville, Sandy (Nery) Gonzalez of Columbus, and Olivia Stamper of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren, Michael Rawlins Jr., Steven Rawlins, Joshua Spears, Grant Walton, Hannah Walton, Sara Pence, and Stanley V. Pence III; and 10 great-grandchildren, including Andrew “Tyrone” Rawlins and Gaberial “Chad” Rawlins who helped care for her.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at the McKinley Funeral Home, with Bud Mefford officiating. Burial will follow in Lucasville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, June 15, 2026 at the funeral home, and an hour before the services on Tuesday.
