Margaret Marie Gordley

Margaret Marie Gordley, 93, of Portsmouth, OH, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at her home at the Hill View Retirement Community.   She was born in Oak Hill, OH, on January 13, 1933, to the late Reverend Clyde Albert & Minnie Sheets Walter, both of whom predeceased her in death.

Margaret was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donald Wayne Gordley, who passed away September 25, 2004; a brother, Richard W. Walter; her sister, Elizabeth Spires; and her niece, Sherry Layne.

She is survived by nephews, Rick Walter, Rodger Walter, and Robert Allen; and a very dear friend, David Green, of Lucasville, Ohio.

A 1951 graduate of Portsmouth East High School, she was the Scioto County Treasurer for 20 years. While in office, Margaret met many people and made many lasting friendships.

She enjoyed playing the organ and piano, crocheting, reading, and taking her many cruises aboard the Mississippi Queen and American Queen Riverboats.

She was active in many organizations, including Business and Professional Women, Lucasville Order of the Eastern Star, the League of Women Voters. Margaret was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors, Cornerstone Church of Portsmouth, and the Holmes Club.

At her request, private graveside services will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 1:00 pm, at Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
