Wilma Jean Whitaker

Wilma Jean Whitaker, 84, of South Webster, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A 1958 graduate of South Webster High School, Wilma was the class Valedictorian. She furthered her education at the University of Rio Grande, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education. As a teacher in the public school system for over 30 years, her dedication to education made a difference for many.

Wilma was a devoted member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where she also served as a Sunday school teacher. Her community involvement extended to the Red Hat Society and various 55 club affiliations, reflecting her active and engaged lifestyle.

She is survived by her sons, Dan (Jackie) Whitaker of South Webster and Dale (Carol) Whitaker of Cattlesburg, KY; her sister, Ruth (Ken) Humphrey of Wheelersburg; and her grandchildren, Jacob Whitaker of Lexington, KY, Lauren (Jered) Hall of Richmond, KY, Kylen (Lena) Webb of Ashland, KY, and Shalyn (Allen) Adams of Morehead, KY. Wilma also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Lynden, Delaney, and Grant. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, T. Elroy Whitaker.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 07, 2025, 11:00AM- 1:00PM at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in South Webster. Funeral Service will be 1:00PM following visitation at the funeral home, Ronnie Litz officiating. Interment will follow at South Webster Cemetery.
