David Keith Shonkwiler

David Keith Shonkwiler, 72, of Minford, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth, surrounded by his loving family. Born March 16, 1951 in Portsmouth, a son of the late George and Wilma Jane “Wid” (Nance) Shonkwiler, he retired from Southern Ohio Correctional Facility after 30 years of service and was also a retired brick mason. David loved to hunt, fish, and spend time with his family. Nothing could bring a smile to his face quicker than seeing his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael Robertson, Howard Dennis Shonkwiler, Mark Thomas Shonkwiler, and another in infancy.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra Shonkwiler; son, Keith Shonkwiler (Becky); a daughter, LeeAnn Storey (Jason); five grandchildren, Christian Porter, Taylor Shonkwiler (Dylan), Matthew Shonkwiler (Avery), Jacob Storey, Eli Storey; two great grandchildren, Adreanah Lutz, Beau Maynard; two brothers, Timothy Shonkwiler, Gregory J. (Pam) Shonkwiler; two sisters, Kimberly Jean (Michael) McRoberts, Lori Ann Conley (Joe), and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Ken Estep officiating. Burial will be at Bennett Cemetery in Minford. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home to offset funeral expenses.
