John James Ward

John James Ward, 90, of Waverly, Ohio passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 at his home.  He was born December 3, 1932 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late James William and Garnet Cutlip Ward.  On March 25, 1953 he was united in marriage to Esther Bauer Ward who survives.  Also surviving are his daughters, Jan (Peter) Elliott of Chillicothe, Joan Uhrig of Chillicothe, Jamie Peters of Waverly, Julie (Dean) Ward of Summerset, Ohio and Jenny Silcott of Waverly; Alex Elliott, Dan (Sasha) Hocter, John (Andrea) Hocter, Shane Peters, Stacie (Shawn) Porter, Steffie (Joel) Eversole, Jessie, Hailie and Annie Silcott; and 12 great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Ward and sons-in-law, Steve Peters and Randy Silcott.

John was a Waverly High School graduate in the class of 1950.  He worked at Schmitt’s Dairy and was retired from Martin Marietta.  He was recently inducted into the Waverly High School Athletic Hall of Fame and proudly served his country in the United States Marines.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Botkin Hornback Funeral Home in Waverly with Dale Reed officiating.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Union Cemetery on Bridge St.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7 and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
