Rev. Jack Gerald Williams, Sr
Rev. Jack Gerald Williams, Sr., 87, of Portsmouth, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the SOMC Hospice Center surrounded by his family. He was born August 9, 1936, in Jackson, the son of the late Rancel and Rev. Ella Mae Smith Williams.
Jack graduated from Glenwood High School and married Daisy Aliene Smith Williams in Portsmouth on August 14, 1954. The couple was married for 68 years prior to her death on August 25, 2022.
Jack received an Associate of Divinity Degree from Faith Bible Institute in Wheelersburg and served 60 years in ministry. He served nine churches over the years, including many years as the beloved pastor at Mabert Road Baptist Church. Jack graduated from the American School of Industrial Supervision in the Electronics & Electricity programs. He was a member of the IBEW and the United Steelworkers Union and he worked as a certified journeyman electrician for the former Empire-Detroit Steel Corp., at Flour Daniels, and he retired as an electrical engineer from DuPont. Following retirement, Jack served with Evangelistic Outreach Ministries and he and his late wife attended Rubyville Community Church.
Jack is survived by five children, Jack G. “Jerry” (Jenni) Williams, Jr. of Chillicothe, Dr. Alma Lanette “Lynn” (Luis Lovelace) Williams of Pittsboro, NC, Sue Ella (Mike) Kiser Blake of Wheelersburg, Dawna Lavonne Williams of Portsmouth and Rancel Scott Williams of Richmond, KY; his brother-in-law, William H. Skaggs of Portsmouth; six grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Wisecup, Jared Brandon Williams, Sarah (Shane) Caseman and Katilyn Kiser, Julian and Fabrienne Lovelace: two great-grandsons, Mason (Courtney) Chapman and Reid Chapman; three great-granddaughters, Lexi Jo Caseman, Aubrey Ann Caseman and Bexleigh Jewel Williams; two nephews, Randy and Mike Skaggs, and their families.
Jack was also preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Skaggs
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday at Rubyville Community Church with Pastor Brian Baer officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10 A.M. until the service hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
