John Wesley Kelley, Sr
John Wesley Kelley, Sr., 87, died Monday, November 28, 2022 in the SOMC Hospice Center surrounded by his family. Born on January 23, 1935 in Sciotoville, he was a son of the late John Raymond and Garnet Gilliland Kelley.
Wes was an active member of the Army Reserve for six years. A retired payroll clerk from the Ohio Department of Transportation with 36 years of service, he also had previously worked at Empire-Detroit Steel Corp. and drove a Lay’s Potato Chip Truck.
A 1954 graduate of East High School, Wes was very instrumental in preparing East High School to become a Community School.
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Donald E. Kelley; a sister, Marjorie Haywood and a great-grandchild, Wren McCallister.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Whitley Kelley; a son, John W. Kelley, Jr. at home; a daughter, Caroline (Rob) Miller of Minford; a brother, Dee (Judy) Kelley of Ironton; three grandchildren, Dr. Stefan (Dr. Danielle) Price of Chillicothe, Zachary (Jessica) Miller of Ft. Myers, FL and Whitley (Chris) McCallister, OTR/L of Sciotoville; five great grandchildren, Brooks Miller, Waverly McCallister, Isaiah Price, Jericho McCallister and Lainey Miller.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Rob Miller officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park.
The family will receive guests at the BRANT’S from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
