Adam Ryan Shields

Adam Ryan Shields, 47, of Portsmouth, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at his residence. He was born March 9, 1975, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Timothy R. Shields and Myra E. Delamater Shields, who survives. A member of Central Church of Christ, Adam was a 1993 graduate of Portsmouth High School and he attended Ohio University Ironton and Shawnee State University.

Adam will be remembered as a P-Town legend. He was a passionate percussionist, writer and artist. He had toured with Regatta 69 as the band’s percussionist and he was a gifted skate boarder. He won many regional competitions and was written up in Thrashermagazine.

Adam is survived by his mother, Myra Ellen Delamater Shields of Portsmouth; his son, Elijah Andrew Shields of Mt. Vernon; his brother, Jason Andrew Shields of Portsmouth. Other family members who were special to Adam include his maternal aunt, Cheryl (Anthony) Selbee of Lucasville and his cousins, Erin (Ryan) Salisbury (children Logan, Carson. Addison and Elijah), Kristin (Darren) Pertuset (their son and Adam’s special little buddy, Anderson), and Jordan (Amber) Selbee; his great-aunt, Ruth Delamater and his many cousins in Albany and Schenectady, NY; paternal aunt, Melody Shields Pontious of South Shore, KY and his cousins Wendee (Dave) Underwood (children, Hailee & Chris Allen and their son, Hudson), and Ashley (Jason) Risner (children, McKenna, Andrew & Danyail Risner and their children, Axton and Peighton). Adam also loved his cats, Orange Blossom and Oscar.

In addition to his father, Tim, Adam was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ralph and Norma Shields and maternal grandparents, Sherwood and Janet Delamater.

Funeral services will be held at 7 P.M. Friday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Ministers Dennis Dawes and Thayer Wallace officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 7 P.M.

Interment will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday in Memorial Burial Park. Those attending will gather at the funeral home by 9:30 A.M. Saturday.
