Rev. James David Smith
Rev. James David Smith, 75, of Piketon, Ohio went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 22, 2022. He was born August 18, 1946 in Jasper, Ohio to the late James W. and Nancy Anne Cutler Smith. On June 10, 1967 he was united in marriage to Linda Lute Smith who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Rachel Fuller and husband Brian of Piketon; grandchildren, Chase Beavers, Baden, Brelyn, Brody and Bailey Fuller; son-in-law, Denver Moore; brother-in-law, David (Cindy) Lute; and sisters-in-law, Sharon and Judy Lute. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, James Morgan Smith; daughters, Heather Lynn Moore and Heidi Lynn Smith; brother, John Alfred Smith; sister, Elizabeth Starr Smith; and brothers-in-law, Jerry and Wayne Lute.
David was a 1964 graduate of Piketon High School. He graduated with high honors from Ohio University and earned a Masters in Divinity from Trevecca Nazarene and was also a graduate of Circleville Bible College with high honors. He was president of the Bible School in Dominica, West Indies where he was a missionary for 4 years. He was also a member of Smith Chapel CCCU and was a minister for 54 years in the Church of Christ in Christian Union, pastoring Mt. Olive Christian Church, Smith Chapel, Bethel Chapel and was assistant pastor at Chillicothe Nazarene. David was president and owner of many lumber companies over the years including, J.W.Smith Lumber Company, Midwest Timber and Land, Mid America Lumber Company, Ameriwood and Wilco.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, May 27, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church in Piketon with Dr. Mike Holbrook and Pastor David Marhoover officiating with singing by “Walk of Faith”. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery in Piketon. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of the service at the church.
