Susie Mae Johnson

Susie Mae Johnson, 73, of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022, at the SOMC Hospice Center. She was born June 4, 1948 in Bethune, SC, a daughter of the late Moses and Willene Gert Caldwell Johnson.

Susie retired from the Maternity Ward of SOMC after 50 years of service doing what she loved. She was a 1967 Portsmouth High School graduate and a member of Beulah Baptist Church. Susie had a great love of life and an infectious laugh that she freely shared. She enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army.

In addition to her parents, Susie was preceded in death February 4, 2009, by her husband, Leonard Franklin “LT” Thomas, whom she married May 3, 1986 in Virginia; and her son, Tim Johnson.

Surviving are two sisters, Mary Jane Sloss of Palm Coast, FL and Willie Belle Jett of Bethune, SC; her grandson, Trevon Moses Bolin- Hitchens of Waverly and several nieces, nephews and their families.

Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday in Greenlawn Cemetery with her nephew, Rev. Kenneth O. Jett, officiating.

Family and friends may gather for the procession to Greenlawn Cemetery at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
