James E. Coburn
James E. Coburn, 76, of Portsmouth, passed away unexpectedly at SOMC on Sunday, April 3, 2022. He was born October 1, 1945 in Portsmouth to the late Harold E. Coburn and to Cora Howard Coburn of Portsmouth. He was a 1963 graduate of Portsmouth High School and also graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree.
He retired from Portsmouth Receiving Hospital 27 years ago.
Jim is survived by his mother, Cora Coburn, his wife of 53 years, Sharon Ward Coburn, a son, Michael Coburn and wife Tracey of Lucasville, a daughter, Kelly Burich and husband Chris of Powell, three granddaughters; Courtney Marasek (Eric) of McDermott, Hillary Billitter (Donald) of West Portsmouth, and Alex Burich of Powell, four beloved grandchildren; Zeke and Ellie Marasek and Remy and Paisley Billitter. He is also survived by an aunt, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. He loved his family dearly.
In addition to his father, Jim was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Arabella Marasek, and several aunts and uncles.
Graveside funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace with Rick Phillips officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
In lieu of flowers, Jim’s favorite charity is the Salvation Army, 1001 9th Street, Portsmouth, OH 45662.
