George E Erwin CW4 USA (Retired), passed away on March 5th, 2022, at the age of 92. Born to Ralph and Hazel Erwin in Canton, Ohio, on September 18th, 1929.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Max and Gene, his stepson Theodore A. Sutton, and his wife, Avanelle.
He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Erwin of Portsmouth and stepdaughter,
Carolyn (Joe) Mckinnon of Portsmouth, granddaughter Nancy (Matt Wyman) Mckinnon of Erlanger, KY, and grandson, Declan C Nichols of Portsmouth.
George was a graduate of Otway High School, class of 1947. He worked at Williams Shoe
Company before going into the Army, during the Korean War. After returning from Korea, he joined the Ohio National Guard and was on full time duty until he retired in December of 1989,after 38 years of service. George worked at Wal-Mart for 17 years in the sporting goods department, where he had many friends.
George was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church, Nauvoo Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
George was an avid Reds and Ohio State fan. He enjoyed reading and listening to country music.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2022, 12:00PM (NOON)-1:00PM.
Masonic/Funeral Service will be immediately following visitation at 1:00PM,
all at FC Daehler Mortuary, 915 Ninth Street Portsmouth, OH 45662.
Burial with Military Honors will be immediately following the service in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.
