Donald Wayne Hibbitts

Donald Wayne Hibbitts passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Don was born July 23, 1937 in Portsmouth, Ohio; the son of the late Wayne Cordell Hibbitts and Rachel Virginia Hibbitts. Don was a 1955 graduate of Wheelersburg High School where he was Class President his Sophomore year. He played the bass horn in the High School Band and was a member of the Wheelersburg Methodist Church. Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He grew up following the Cincinnati Red’s baseball team and had great admiration for the Red’s play-by-play radio announcer, Waite Hoyt who Don was able to meet personally on several occasions. After graduation Don joined the Elks Country Club where he practiced tirelessly to become an accomplished golfer. He enlisted in the US Army where he served two years on active duty at Fort Lewis, Washington. After an Honorable Discharge from the Army he moved to Toledo, Ohio where he was Head Pro at the Sylvania Country Club. And because of his passion for golf, Don later moved to Oakmont, PA. where he was a longtime member of the Oakmont Country Club. Don was an ardent lover of his Country and would always begin his letterhead with “God Bless America”! Don was predeceased in death by his Father Wayne Hibbitts and Mother Virginia Hibbitts, his Brother Bob Hibbitts and wife Barbara and Nephew, Todd Hibbitts. He is survived by his Brother James R. Hibbitts (and wife Shirley) of Washington, DC. He is also survived by his Niece, Jennifer Hibbitts of Fairfax, CA., Nephew’(s) Robert W. Hibbitts of Stowe, VT., Timothy Hibbitts of Milwaukee, WI., Lance Hibbitts (and wife Debbie and their children Jacob & Emma) of Missoula, MT. and Marian Hibbitts, Niece-in-law of Flowery Branch, GA. Burial will be held at the Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, OH at a future date in 2022.Arrangements entrusted to BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC.
