Robert E. Crotty
Robert E. Crotty, longtime educator and high school basketball coach, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY after an extended illness.
Bob, the son of Robert John and Margaret “Peggy” Anderson Crotty, was born June 19, 1935, in Quinnimont, West Virginia.
Following graduation from high school, Bob entered the US Navy and served as a radarman from 1954 to 1958 aboard the USS Dueul and the USS Lloyd. After being honorably discharged, Bob worked as a reporter for the Beckley (WV) Post-Herald and the Huntington (WV) Herald-Dispatch. Bob received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marshall University in Huntington. He began his teaching and basketball coaching career at Middleport High School in Middleport, OH continuing at McKell High School in South Shore, KY and Northwest High School in McDermott, OH. He was Supervisor of Secondary Schools in Pike County, OH until his retirement in 1993.
Bob was a big fan of Ohio State football and basketball, and enjoyed working in his yard, woodworking, and fishing. He was a member of the United Methodist faith.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Delores Shawver and Mildred Higgenbotham Harbo.
Bob is survived by his wife, LaDonna Crockett Crotty, whom he married November 25, 1959, in Huntington; his children, Cathy (Will) Roberts, Carol Crotty, Susan Crotty, and Mike (Nikki) Crotty; and his beloved grandson, Cooper Crotty.
Due to the Covid pandemic, there will be no visitation. Funeral services for the family will be 2 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville with Andy Day officiating. Graveside services will follow in Scioto Burial Park.
