Scott Ferguson Purdum

Scott Ferguson Purdum, 80, of Rosemount, passed away at his home Friday, January 28, 2022. Scott was born May 26, 1941, in Columbus, a son of the late Cecil Reynold and Evelyn Pearl Ferguson Purdum.

Scott attended Portsmouth High School where he charmed the girls and was looked up to by the younger boys, as he was one of the cool “Park Shop Boys”. Although he moved to the Philadelphia area during his senior year, ultimately graduating from Abington High School in 1960, Scott continued to have adventures with his Portsmouth friends well into his 70’s. He was fortunate to have traveled the world, usually with his friends from Portsmouth, enjoying fine food and wine, art and architecture. He could tell a story like no other and usually had his listeners in stitches with his over-the-top antics.

Scott had an interesting professional life, which included having stock in a professional bowler. He was an entrepreneur and very successful pioneer in the field of Skiptracing, which involves debtor and fugitive recovery. Scott was a car salesman in Colorado and then locally, when he returned to the friends and good memories he had made in Portsmouth. He frequently enjoyed having dinner with friends, sharing stories and the wisdom he gained throughout his live.  Scott also had a great love for movies and his pets and had formerly been involved in the rescue of mistreated Airedales.

He was an Army veteran and served as a medic in Philadelphia. He later lived in California and was present at a time of incredible cultural revolution in the 1960’s and he experienced many of the events that others read about and saw on television.

Those left to mourn Scott include his beloved sister, Emily J. Marshall Severinsen of Mexico; dear friends, Sharon Scott of Stout and her family, especially her grandson and Scott’s special kindred spirit, Sean Little, of Portsmouth, Mike and Teeny Musser-Pettay and their family of Portsmouth; his beloved cat, Little Nell; and a few of his longtime friends who are still with us.

A Gathering of Friends will be held from 11 A.M to Noon on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth. At noon, it is hoped that friends will come prepared to share “Scott Stories”. The American Legion James Dickey Post Honor Detail will conduct military rites.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in Scott’s memory to Sierra’s Haven for New & Used Pets, 80 Easter Dr., Portsmouth, OH 45662 or an animal shelter of your choice.
